The crowd wasn't as big as one would expect for Run Devil Run's last
show, though it was alright, I guess. Those that were there slammed,
stomp-danced (?) and banged into each other like balls in an old time
pinball machine. Rumor was, Don Foose (vocals) was giving up music,
PERIOD! This was cleared up at the show when Don said the only thing
finished was Run Devil Run. Music itself was not out. Don (ex=Paralyzer/
Spudmonsters) and the rest of the band kept the crowd going with classics
like "Force-Fed Reality", on which J.C. from the band Dead Even came up to
sing. This guy's voice is absolutely incredible! One of the very
best I've ever heard in punk or hardcore. This song was the highlight
of the whole evening with Don, J.C., and the guitar player exchanging lines
on the chorus. What stands out about RDR is not just the great music
but the positive attitude in the lyrics. Being a good and strong
person, actually giving a shit about things, and enjoying life. This
is the attitude that turned me onto punk rock in the first place. Other
moshfests they did included my favorite "Stand Still", "Rise Above", and
many others from both of their releases. Thanks for the great music, guys!!
Before RDR was 13 Faces, your typical hardcore band with growly vocals.
If anything separated these guys from other bands that sound exactly the
same it was some of their sound reminding one of old Carcass. Don't
get me wrong, I enjoyed their set. Very much in fact. I'd probably
love their CD. I heard the singer threw up in a cup but I didn't get
to see it, luckily.
Opening the show was Victory Flag, who sounded great with their new
line-up . The songs were filled with punch and they were much more exciting
than when I first saw them years ago. This line-up will bring Victory
Flag to the forefront like they deserve. They played songs from their
CD 'The soundtrack To Your Miserable Life' as well as their cover of DRI's
"Gone Too Long" which appears on the DRI tribute, 'We Don't Need Society'.
Closing the show was a band I missed. I apologize I don't know who they
were. Due to being a wageslave I had to leave. I send my respects to the
band. (Mike Salamone)
