Porcupine Tree
The House of Blues
05-25-05
It was “An Evening With Porcupine Tree” at Cleveland's
House of Blues, as there was no opening act on the bill. Obviously that
didn’t bother too many people, as this was a sold-out show, just one of many
on the English prog rock band’s current tour. And hey, after 15 years of
turning out quality albums, it’s about time this band started getting some
notice.
After passing the usual HoB "Homeland Security"
checkpoint I was in. Porcupine Tree started the evening off with
“Deadwing”, the title track from their latest album. The vast majority of
the rest of their set came from the new album as well (they played almost
the entire thing), so if you were hoping to hear the old stuff you were
pretty much out of luck. There were a few tunes from 2002’s ‘In Absentia’,
“Fadeaway” from ‘Up the Downstair’ (sung by touring second guitar player
JohnWesley), “Even Less” from ‘Stupid Dream’, and “Hatesong” and
“Shesmovedon” from ‘Lightbulb Sun’. Sure, I would have loved a few more
oldies, but I can’t complain. The band played great and it was an
incredible show. Sorry, no pics. I was supposed to have a photo pass for
this show, but for some reason it wasn’t there. (Bob Ignizio)
