I wasn't sure what to expect from this, but it turned
out to be pretty damn good. Disengage took the opening duties at the last
minute and turned in a fine set of original tunes. Probably a little too
metal for some, but cool by me. The guitar could have been mixed a little
louder, but overall they sounded good.
Anyway, the main event started out with Keith Morris on
vocals backed by Mother Superior aka The Rollins Band. A lot of people
think Keith was Black Flag's best vocalist, including Mr. Rollins himself,
and he definitely sounded good on classics like "Wasted" and "Nervous
Breakdown". He may be older now, but he still performs with energy and
passion. Ditto for Henry Rollins, who took over vocal duties about a third
of the way into the show with a killer version of "Rise Above". All the
expected numbers were in the set, including "T.V. Party", "My War", and
"6-Pack" as well as some surprises like "Can't Decide". Rollins and company
came back for an encore of two more Flag classics and a trio of Ramones
songs. It was a great show and I hate to gripe, but I will anyway. Keith
should have come back for the encore as well, if only for some backing
vocals or something. All the money made from ticket sales and merch went to
help the West Memphis 3, a trio of kids currently rotting in jail for
murders they most likely did not commit - watch "Paradise Lost" I and
II for the details. (Bob Ignizio)
