| 1. Alice Cooper - Come on, who else would it be?
With songs like "Welcome to My Nightmare" and "Dead Babies" and the
original "shock rock" stage show, Alice is the king. 2. The Misfits -
They pretty much wrote a song about every Z-grade horror film ever made
and married catchy melodies to lyrics like "I've got something to say, I
killed your baby today".
3. Screamin' Jay Hawkins - Although no longer with us, Screamin' left
a legacy of great horror rock songs like "I Put a Spell on You" and
"Feast of the Mau Mau". And he was from Cleveland.
4. Bobby "Boris" Pickett - Come on, you didn't think I'd leave the
guy who did "The Monster Mash" off this list, did you?
5. Cradle of Filth - Although usually labeled a "black metal" band,
CoF get more inspiration from old Hammer horror films than anything
truly Satanic. |
6. Gobin - This Italian progressive rock band provided
ultra creepy soundtracks for numerous horror films, including 'Dawn of
the Dead' and 'Suspiria'. 7. Ozzy Osbourne - Come on, the guy bit the
head off a friggin' bat. And then there's "Bark at the Moon", "Mr.
Crowley", etc.
8. The Bau Haus - Pretty much created the blueprint for "goth" rock.
"Bela Lugosi's Dead" is a classic.
9. The Cramps - Sort of The Misfits garage rock cousins.
Probably just as obsessed with sex and sleaze as horror, but they had their share
of morbid moments.
10. Iron Maiden - Although they started getting "serious" on later
albums, songs like "Phantom of the Opera" and "Children of the Damned"
earn them their place on this list.
