Fond Farewells

An Interview with Ian of Goodbye Ohio

By Jennifer Adams

Utter Trash:  When and how did the band get together and where are you from?
Ian:  March of 2005. We’re from Akron, Ohio. We all lived together and have been friends for years (Scott and Mick are brothers) and just decided to try it.  After we had a few songs we wondered why we didn’t do it earlier.

UT:  Who's in the band and what do they do?
Ian:  Scott guitar/vocals, Ian bass and some vocals and Mick drums

UT:  What artists influenced you and inspired you to play music?
Ian:  Everything from Crimpshine to Radiohead.

UT:  How would you describe your music?
Ian:  Complex post punk

UT:  Outside of playing music, what sort of things do you like to do?
Ian:  Ride bikes, read, record.

UT:  What do you hope to achieve with the band? What level of success would you be comfortable with?
Ian:  We want to be able to tour as much as possible and continue to write and record.

UT:  What's your favorite song you play and why?
Ian:  All of them, they're all fun in different ways.

UT:  What do you think of your local scene?
Ian:  Right now the Akron scene is really close knit everyone knows everyone and supports each other.

UT:  How important are lyrics to you? Do you try to "say something" with your songs, write something fun and catchy, or write about personal things?
Ian:  Scott writes the lyrics and I only know some of the parts, I'm guessing they’re personal but he wont tell me.

UT:  Any plans for touring or playing a few gigs outside of your hometown?
Ian:  We're leaving for a 2 week 3 day tour on July 8th.

UT:  Describe your best and worst gig experiences.
Ian:  Well, one I won’t mention because it could get me into some trouble. So, I'll say our first show.  It was in this basement and the acoustics sounded like shit and Scott was really sick.  Let’s just say it took a few days of recovery.

UT:  Anything else you want to add?
Ian:  Check us out
