American Werewolves, A Dozen Dead Roses, and others

02-12-05

Peabody's

So, a free local show! Let's go. Supposedly was gonna start at 7PM, who the hell goes to a show that early? We show up at 10:30. Only two bands left, what the fuck!?

Missed Names for Graves I guess, saw they're opening for Integrity - the real news is Apt. 213 is also opening! Thats pretty cool!

Less cool is that A Dozen Dead Roses is about to take the stage.  Ex-Signoffs guys; I figure the new name is an attempt to appeal to both "rawkers" and emo fags.

I gave it a fair shot, lasted 3/4th of a song....this is the most posing I have ever seen from a band...and yeah, I did see the Signoffs! This is like that taken to the next level. Guys (i use that term generously) - you're playing a free punk show - not filming a video - no need to stage a photo opportunity every 5 seconds. damn, you looked cool though pulling off a solo while pointing at a girl in the crowd! You suck, and the major labels got their fill of this stuff, give up (on your band and your life).

I wandered next door - there was a battle of the bands going on in Pirates Cove appearently. The band there was actually decent! Yeah I was drunk; forgot the name. Two dudes , two girls , all really fucking ugly. Yeah I felt a bit more at home in here. They were sorta trashy glam-punk - in the real-sense - not the fashion sense - total trash rock. Only saw two songs, but these guys were havin' a lot of fun on stage, I enjoyed what I saw.

Went back into the other room, oh no, Roses are still on. Man when the hallway outside is more packed than the front of the stage, that means quit. Let's just skip ahead 15 minutes til they're done, I wish I could have done that there.

American Werewolves headlined, everyone knows these guys love the Misfits. I mean the comparison is unavoidable. I saw em on halloween a year back, and had fun, so let's give em a chance! They were actually pretty good - sure, all the cliches you'd expect were there. But they actually had a bit of range in their narrow style, and pulled it off well. The band is tight, and Trevor's a good frontman and I'd be willing to bet he'd say 'Beware' is a better record than 'Earth A.D.' - and they had some catchy tunes.  Not a bad display at all.
