Lords of the Highway with The Koffin Kats and The Marauders

02-05-05

The Beachland Tavern

It was a sold out Beachland Tavern crowd on hand for the Lords CD release party.  Their new album, 'Degreaser', was hot off the presses from Rock N Roll Purgatory Records, and it's a good one.  But I'll save that for it's own review.

The Marauders started things off with a solid set of rockabilly.  These guys are a little more traditional than The Lords, but they still delievered a fun, high energy performance.

Next up it was the Koffin Kats.  They reminded me of The Misfits crossed with Deadbolt.  Lot's of sing along "whoah" choruses and sinister sounding, reverb-drenched guitar parts.  Some of the subtleties of the songs were probably lost in the mix, but I'd definitely want to check this band out again.

The Lords opened up with a volley of tunes from their new CD that got the packed room groovin'.  Of course, most of the band's fans are already familiar with these songs as they have been well road tested, but this is one case where familiarity did not breed contempt.  After a full 45 minute set that included plenty of old favorites as well as more new tunes, the crowd still wanted more.  The band obliged with a lengthy encore that had to satisfy even their most hardcore fans.  As always, the band's playing was impeccable and their sense of fun was infectious.  (Bob Ignizio)
