In the rough and tumble world of extreme metal, few bands have rocked as hard and as long as Enthroned. From their humble beginnings back in 1994, they have endured endless lineup changes, as well as the suicide of their original drummer Cernunnos. Recently, Assistant Editor Taliesin Govannon got a chance to ask their guitarist Nguaroth a few questions.
Taliesin Govannon: Enthroned has been around for almost twelve years now...quite a feat for an underground extreme metal band! To what do you owe your longevity?
Nguaroth: To our honesty, we do what we believe in in the first place and not posing for a few dollars more.
Our integrity is our strength!
TG: How's the new drummer Glaurung working out?
N: He's doing good , he's a good member at 500 % into our beliefs and thoughts and a top quality musician.
TG: The new album, "Xes Haereticum" is killer...how has the reaction been in Europe?
N: The reactions have been very good , just a few hard core pigs didn't like it for some reasons but as those
people have no taste, may it be in music or life-concept, it doesn't really matter.
TG: Give us an overview of the album...are there any particular standout tracks that you're dying to have people hear?
N: The whole concept turns around heresy in it's different forms and sides. Every track's got it's own vibe and vision of heresy.
Stand out tracks are for me "Vortex of Confusion", "Seven Plagues, Seven Wraths" and "Last Will" but as I love each track it's a hard choice but I have no doubt at all concerning "Vortex of Confusion"!.
TG: The band has had a parade of members in and out...some leaving peacefully, others tragically. How does the current lineup compare to the past, and do you think you have a stable lineup at last?
N: We will never know if we will have a stable line-up or not, that's the hardest question you can ask to an enthroned member I guess, but as long as I am in the band the spirit carries on! The actual line-up is without doubt the most underground minded and dedicated one we (have) had in a long time! Every line up we've had (has) had it's own charms and qualities etc...in this one it's the dedication and interest of the two new daemons that stands out of the rest!
TG: So how's work on the live album coming along?
N: We are working on it...it seems that it'll be a good live album, that's all I can say at the moment. It might also feature unreleased stuff.
TG: Why did you decide to do a live album now?
N: Why not?
TG: Unlike other extreme metal European bands, you guys have actually played in the US. Are there any plans for a return trip?
N: We'll see at the moment it's not our main plan, we prefer to take a bit of time to put some order here and there. We came back not so long ago from a south
American tour , now we will tour Europe so we take a bit of time to write new material and for ourselves before
planning anything more.
TG: The extreme metal scene in Europe seems a bit crowded these days. Though you guys seem to be at the top of the black-metal heap, it's been a long hard climb. How do you plan on maintaining your position?
N: That's a point I don't care about, not at all! I'm not here to be at the top or worshipped or at the top of the black metal heap or trend or whatsoever, I'm doing my thing for me and Satan nothing else, if we do not sell records anymore than fuck it that was never our goal anyway so...
TG: Do you have anything else to add?
N: Nothing really special , AMSG
