It was a pretty small crowd at the Beachland, but it
was a late show on a Wednesday night so I guess that’s about par for the
course in Cleveland these days. Global Chaos from Philly started things off
with a high energy set of punk songs. Pretty typical stuff, but fun
nonetheless. The Low Budgets (with the exception of Joe Jack Talcum) were
all moshing and circle dancing up front along with a couple of audience
members.
The Low Budgets, also from Philly, were up next and
they kicked out the “value rock” jams. Songs like “Fifty Cents” and “Ripped
Off” were much more raw and aggressive live than their studio counterparts,
all for the better in my book. At the end of their set the band knocked
over every piece of equipment on stage, as well as each other. A very fun
performance, just a shame there weren’t more people there to witness it.
Locals Johnnie 3 closed out the evening, which if you
know anything about the Cleveland music scene is not exactly an honor.
Still, it was only midnight so most of the crowd actually stuck around. The
band plays poppy punk with lyrics intended to shock. They were ok but the
joke got a little old after a few songs. I probably would have loved this
band back when I was in high school, though. (Bob Ignizio)
