I'm not good at guessing how many people are in a crowd but I'd guess 500
or more were at the Rock Hall this fine evening. Although many people
were disappointed about the Rock Hall itself for several reasons, the show
was an incredible mixture of young and old punks.
First up was the Pink Holes who reunited for this event. While not
the best of musicians they soared through a set of their classic songs which
included the 70's t.v. theme song for "Land of the Lost". I never
thought I'd see them live and am glad I did, though their set was too
short.
Next up were punk legends The Pagans. They were in top form this
evening. Playing such classics as "Dead End America", "Not Now, No Way", "Whats
This Shit Called Love",........DAMN! Every song was a classic! An
all-star jam broke out in the middle with Jimmy Zero (Dead Boys) on guitar,
Nick Knox (Cramps) on drums, and Craig Bell (Rocket From the Tombs, The
Mirrors) on bass. They did the song "Gloria" made famous by Jimi
Hendrix, Patti Smith, etc. Luckily they didn't drag it out and did a
good version without overdoing it like other bands have done. I feel
lucky to have seen the Pagans and am glad it lasted longer than 10 minutes
like the last time they played a while back.
Tin Huey was the last band of the evening and to be honest I thought they
sucked and didn't belong on the bill. But a few people have made
comments to me that in their day they were in the "punk" category. I
walked away and started mingling with friends. If Bob allows maybe I
can write an article on why concerts at the Rock Hall suck. None of us
punks would have been at that place if it wasn't for the line-up! (Mike
