DIY Radio Benefit Show
with 12 Floz., 31 Days, The Professional Againsters, and Vegas
The Lime Spider
08-01-03
12 Floz. were definitely working at a disadvantage from
the get go, with their regular drummer deciding to take a trip to Mexico
rather than playing this gig. The band got a last minute replacement who
did a pretty good job of learning the set in two days, so definite props to
him. If you like the sort of punk that gets played on MTV and 92.3 then you
probably would have liked this band.
31 Days pretty much fit into the same niche as 12 Floz.
They even covered a song by Blink 41 or New Found Charlotte or somebody like
that. This was only the band’s second gig, but I think they need a few more
practices before attempting their third. Man do I feel like a heel slamming
a band that’s playing a benefit show, but I’ve got to be honest. My
perceptions aside, the young crowd (this was an all-ages show) didn’t seem
to mind the lack of polish.
The Professional Againsters, on the other hand, were
just awesome. They tore through most of the songs on their demo as well as
a cover of the New Bomb Turks “I’m Weak” and an original they haven’t got
around to recording yet called “Disillusioned”. They also scared most of
the younguns out of the bar. Put this band in front of a crowd who gets
where they’re coming from and it would have been a different story, though.
If you dig shit like The Hellacopters, The Datsuns, The MC5, and Amps II
Eleven then check these guys out as soon as possible.
I decided to bail before Vegas took the stage. Call me
prejudiced, but they looked like they were going to sound pretty much like
the first two bands and I can only take so much of that watered down pop
punk in one sitting. Sorry if I’m mistaken, but I didn’t feel like playing
the odds with Vegas. (Bob Ignizio)
